Organic snacks can be found in almost every major supermarket and in specialty health food stores. The certified organic label carries a lot of weight with consumers who are searching for products that are a “cut above”, primarily for health reasons. The trend has exploded so rapidly that major food conglomerates are jumping on the bandwagon and offering organic choices. According to an O’Mama report, Campbell Soup Company began offering organic tomato juice in 2003. Unilever, which owns the Ragu brand of pasta sauces, introduced organic sauces recently. ConAgra Foods will introduce "Hunt’s" brand organic sauces and "Orville Redenbacher’s" organic microwave popcorn soon.
Three major reasons for the increased popularity in organic snack foods are: 1) concerns about food additives in conventional processed foods; 2) concerns about genetically modified organisms being added to foods in the U.S.; and 3) a desire to reduce trans fats in the diet. Certified organic foods do not contain synthetic additives, gmo’s, or trans fats. For more information about these ingredients, please visit our

Organic snacks encompass a broad range of foods, from yogurt to cookies to snack bars. Pretzels, chips, hot dogs and jams have also gone organic. Although many consumers are looking for healthier snack alternatives, snacking in general is not likely to diminish. Most of the new products introduced into the market included snack bars, energy bars, and savory/salty snacks (Prepared Foods, March, 2004).
