Organic pet remedies

siamese cat

When we began to research the subject of organic pet remedies, we were amazed at the number of organizations, products, and resources available to pet owners. For example, acupuncture has become an accepted practice for companion animals; information is available at the website of the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. Find information about alternative veterinary practices at ahvma.org, the website for the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. The American Veterinary Chiropractic Association provides a listing of certified chiropractors in the U.S. The Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy also provides a listing of member homeopaths throughout the country.

We also recommend a few useful and informative publications for pet lovers: Animal Wellness magazine , which is giving away a digital version of their magazine for a limited time; and the Whole Dog Journal , which contains interesting articles covering a wide variety of topics on holistic dog care.

Many pet lovers know that our pets are vulnerable to many of the same illnesses that afflict humans, and that alternative remedies can be helpful in many cases. Puppies and kittens, with their immature immune systems, are particularly susceptible to illnesses. Probiotics can help improve digestion. Essential fatty acids can help to boost the immune system. Garlic supplements and neem oil can help to ward off fleas. Lavender and valerian can help soothe anxious pets. And the list goes on.

Below just a few of the many websites where pet owners can find natural, organic pet remedies, supplements, and other resources. Remember that not all herbs are safe for all pets, and a veterinarian should be consulted if there is any question about the safety of a product. (Disclaimer: this website does not guarantee any claims made by the individual websites.) Herbal remedies and supplements may take longer to work, but they tend to be free of the side effects produced by many commercial medicines.

B-naturals.com They provide a full line of organic herbal pet remedies, supplements, and information. A well organized site.

Botanicaldog.com Botanicaldog.com provides pet care products (flea treatments, shampoos) and supplements containina natural and organic ingredients. And you can post a photo of your pet on their website! Why not visit their companion website, Botanical cat.com?

Arbico organics Provides natural flea control treatments, shampoos, conditioners, and powders for a healthier, happier pet. Products are available to cats, dogs, birds, and horses.

Pet Tips: Did you ever need a quick remedy for your pet, but you didn't have anything on hand? Well, think again. Find fleas on your dog? Use a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid in your dog's bath; shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Does your cat have ear mites? Try a few drops of Wesson or other brand of corn oil in your cat's ears. Clean it out with a cotton ball, and repeat for 3 days. The oil soothes the skin, and it smothers the mites.

Prevention Magazine has compiled a list of natural remedies that you can try with your pet. Why not avoid toxic chemicals found in most veterinary prescriptions?
